Goodwin, Peter '73


Peter Goodwin Class of 1973 Peter J. Goodwin, 64, longtime resident of Wilton, NH, died on September 20, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at the Concord Regional VNA Hospice House, Concord, NH. He was born in Nashua, NH on February 4, 1955, a son of the late Roy A. Goodwin and Edith (Trow) Davis. Peter was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1973. Peter spent most of his working life in the residential building industry as a carpenter and had worked on many projects at the Quarry Condominiums in Milford. In his younger years, Peter loved coaching his daughter’s Little League teams in Wilton. He was an avid New England Patriots fan and also liked to go snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed morning coffee with the boys at Union Street Grill and was well known for telling stories and sharing jokes. Above all else, Peter loved his family fiercely, was so proud of his girls and filled their home with laughter. Family members include his wife with whom he would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on September 30th, Deborah L. (Joseph) Goodwin of Wilton; two daughters, Ashley Goodwin and Amber Goodwin, both of Wilton; a sister, Donna Jean of Londonderry, NH; a brother, Timothy Goodwin of Milford; brother-in-law, Dan Joseph of CA; a niece and nephew, Michelle and Chris; his stepmother, Alice Goodwin; a stepbrother, Harry Lyford; a stepsister, Glee Lyford; as well as several others. Hansen, Evelyn (Duerschmidt) '43


Evelyn (Duerschmidt) Hansen Class of 1943 Evelyn V. Hansen, 97, a lifelong resident of Milford, NH, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, at Mineral Springs Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway, NH, where she spent the last six weeks of her life surrounded by the love of her family. Evelyn was born in Nashua, NH, on July 30, 1925, the daughter of Otto C. and Mary (Gibbons) Duerschmidt. She attended Milford schools and graduated in the Milford High School Class of 1943. She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Milford. Evelyn worked for the Souhegan National Bank, Hitchiner Manufacturing Company, and Enright Law Offices, all in Milford. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and traveling (Denmark, Ireland, and multiple cross-country road trips, visiting nearly all of the contiguous United States). She was selfless, kind, generous, and loved doing for others. She was the ultimate hostess to anyone that entered her home and could whip up a gourmet meal at a moment’s notice. Evelyn was a caregiver to many throughout her life, and was active in her community, having volunteered at Crestwood Healthcare Center and the Pillsbury Home. The pride and joy, the loves of her life, were her grandchildren – she was their number one fan, attending sporting events, recitals, and concerts, and avidly following their travels from afar. She was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Anders J. Hansen; a son, Neil Hansen; and her daughter-in-law, Cynthia S. Hansen. (North Conway,NH - 04.05.2023)

Heald, James E. '49


James E. Heald Class of 1949 James E. Heald, 89, lifelong resident of Milford, NH, died on January 16, 2021 at his home. He was born in Nashua, NH on January 21, 1931, a son of Hermann L. and Mary A. (Broughton) Heald. He was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1949. Throughout high school, he was Captain of the Cross Country and Track Team. Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and was engaged in active ground combat on the frontlines in Korea as an anti-tank assault infantryman serving with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He later served as the liaison to the 293rd Quarter Master Graves Registration Company at the 8th Army base in Yong Dong Po, South Korea, where he worked identifying and fingerprinting American soldiers and allied forces killed in Korea. Jim also participated in the search and recovery missions of those fallen soldiers. In remembering his service, Jim often reflected upon the mission to recover the bodies of forty Marines, returning from R&R who were killed when their plane crashed into the side of a mountain. Jim's experience in the Marine Corps played a very important role in his life. It taught him the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in a cause larger than himself. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned to the States in 1953 and continued his education at New England Institute of Anatomy, Sanitary Science and Embalming in Boston, MA, and graduated with honors in 1955. He began his career in funeral service with Leon C. Tucker, and L. Paul Ecklund Funeral Homes and later was associated with Boutwell Mortuary, Concord, NH. Jim went to work for John T. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Milford, NH and in 1960, he formed a partnership with L. Keeley Smith and the name was changed to Smith & Heald Funeral Home. In 1972, his brother, Richard B. Heald, joined him at the funeral home. Jim was a former member of the New Hampshire Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Associated Funeral Directors Association and the Order of the Golden Rule. He retired in 1995 and the business is currently owned and operated by his two daughters, Deborah Quinlan and Gretchen Heald-Brooks, and his grandson, Patrick Brooks. He served as treasurer of the former Souhegan Nursing Association and New Hampshire Funeral Directors Association. In addition, he was a member of the Harley Sanford Post #4368 VFW, Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23 American Legion, Custos Morum Lodge - IOOF and former member of the Milford Lions Club. He was a life member of the 1st Marine Division. Jim was co-chair of the thought, planning and completion of the Korean War Memorial located on Elm Street, Milford. He had a strong faith and at the time of his death, was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Milford where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon and on the Investment Committee. He was honored to have served the families in Milford and the surrounding towns throughout his years both in funeral service and as a charter member of the Milford Ambulance Service. Jim was a man of faith, who loved his family, his country and the USMC. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard B. Heald and John A. Heald; two sisters, Suzanne Floris and Mary Lou Cassarino. Family members include his high school sweetheart and wife with whom he would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on January 20th, Kathryn L. (Howe) Heald of Milford; seven children and their spouses, Thomas and Carol Heald of Strafford, NH, Deborah and Michael Quinlan of Bedford, NH, Laurie and Mario Palmeri of Shoreview, MN, Susan and Joseph Pestana of Bedford, NH, David and Sheila Heald of Manchester, NH, Gretchen Heald-Brooks and Jeffrey Brooks of Milford, NH, Jonathan and Kristen Heald of Bedford, NH; Lovingly known as Bup to his 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, whom he was so proud of; also survived by six sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews. Jepson, Norma (Saraceno) '53


Norma M. Jepson Class of 1953 Norma M. Jepson, 86, lifelong resident of Milford, NH, died on December 28, 2021 at Hackett Hill Center, Manchester, NH. She was born in Nashua, NH on August 6, 1935, a daughter of Leo P. and Irene M. (Townsend) Saraceno. She was raised and educated in Milford, having graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1953. Norma was an avid knitter. She taught local elementary students how to knit and donated her goods to cancer patients and local school children. Norma also enjoyed years of watching her childrens’ sporting events and participated in the MCAA. In her later years she followed her grandchildrens’ sporting, music, and dance endeavors. She was an original lifetime member of Hampshire Hills Athletic Club, Where she played tennis in her younger years and swam daily in her later life. Her most precious time was spent with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick T. Jepson, who died in 2020. Family members include her five children and their spouses; Bret and Maureen Jepson of Milford, NH, JoAnn and Phil Aubrey of Amherst, NH, Jayma and Mark Walker of Milford, NH, Jeryl and Ned Williams of Andover, MA, Jon and Rachael Jepson of Haverhill, MA; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Boyer of Marco Island, FL and Noreen Clifford of Milford, NH. Johnson, Mark R. '74


Mark R. Johnson Class of 1974 Born July 31, 1956 in Worcester, Massachusetts to David Johnson of Georges Mills, NH and Sylvia (Cossar) Johnson of New London, NH, Mark was a good, decent man who loved his family, and worked hard his whole life; an endlessly loyal employee in the printing industry for over 40 years. A gifted athlete, he excelled in track, basketball, and golf in Hopewell Junction, NY and Satellite Beach, FL during his middle and high school years. Moving to Amherst, NH in 1973, Mark became starting center for MASH’s 1973-1974 winning basketball team. After graduating from Milford Area Senior High in 1974, he walked-on to the 1975 Syracuse Freshman basketball team. He played basketball well into his forties in the Wilton Men’s League, and later coached several Milford youth basketball teams to winning seasons. Mark was an accomplished skier, and a skilled hiker, mountain-biker, and ‘bushwacker’, completing both the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail. He also hiked some of the Rockies with his wife. He was a proud member of the NH AMC 4000 Footer Club. He will be greatly missed by his favorite hiking companions, “Neighbor Dave” and “Chickety” of Concord, NH. In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Chriss (Kligerman) Johnson, Milford, NH, and devoted son, Hollis Johnson, Brooklyn, NY. Also survived by brothers Craig Johnson, Eric Johnson, Victor Johnson, and stepmother, Ki Johnson, all of NH; the Johnson cousins, and many Kligerman relatives as well. (Newbury, NH - 06.18.2020)

Lippert, Thomas '17


Thomas J. Lippert Class of 2017 Thomas Lippert was raised and educated in Milford, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 2017, where he was active in student government. As a young boy, Thomas was active in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed playing video games and collecting all types of Video Games and Memorabilia. Thomas will be remembered as such a kind, caring and courageous young man who had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a full-time student, in his senior year, at Southern New Hampshire University and had been working at Market Basket for the past seven years when he passed away. (Milford, NH - 03.29.2021)

Lorden, Barry '61


Barry N. Lorden Class of 1961 Barry N. Lorden, 78, longtime resident of Milford, NH died on January 16, 2022 at the V.A. Community Living Center, Manchester, NH. He was born in Nashua, NH on May 2, 1943, a son of Leonard (Barney) and Barbara (Chandler) Lorden. Barry was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1961. He graduated from NH Business College. He worked as an accountant for Dartmouth College in Hanover. He worked as a bartender at the VFW and American Legion. Barry enjoyed playing softball for Milford Teams for many years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and Thailand and was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. Barry was a member of Harley Sanford Post #4368 VFW and Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23 American Legion, Milford and Bent Burke Post#10 in Wilton. Family members include his sister, Ellen Perham of Milford; two brothers, Terry Lorden of NYC,NY and John “Jack” Lorden of Green Mountain, NC. (Manchester, NH - 01.16.2022)
