Dear Milford Community,

Our greatest responsibility as a school community is to keep our students and staff safe, and as Superintendent, I want you to know this remains my top priority. With this commitment in mind, I want to share how we approach emergency preparedness in our schools, the ways we collaborate with local law enforcement, and our ongoing work to continually strengthen safety measures.

Emergency Preparedness
Each of our schools follows a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that is reviewed annually, practiced through regular drills, and aligned with state and federal guidelines. Staff receive ongoing training, and students participate in age-appropriate safety exercises so that everyone is prepared to respond quickly and appropriately in an emergency.

Collaboration with Law Enforcement
We maintain strong partnerships with the Milford Police Department and other first responders. Together with our School Resource Officer, Mr. Addonizio, we conduct safety assessments and drills. In collaboration with law enforcement, the School Board, and our Facilities Department, we continue to strengthen school security through programs such as the New Hampshire SAFE grants. These grants have allowed us to install new classroom door locks, additional indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras, and ballistic film on first-floor windows. Additionally, this summer we upgraded to new phone and door access card systems across the district.

Ongoing Commitment
We know that safety is never “finished". It requires ongoing evaluation, training, and strong community partnership. Just as important, we are dedicated to building the positive relationships that create a culture of trust, care, and vigilance across all of our schools.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping Milford schools safe places for children to learn and grow. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Christi Michaud

Superintendent of Schools

Dear Milford Students, Parents, and Families,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year in the Milford School District! Each new year brings with it a sense of excitement, opportunity, and possibility for every student. As we begin this year’s journey together, I want to highlight the District’s vision that guides us:

“The Milford School District will be an inspiring community where deep learning and strong relationships empower ALL students to become designers of their own story.”

For our youngest learners, this means exploring interests, making choices, building habits, finding their voice, and discovering they can do hard things.

For our middle and high school students, it means making intentional choices, gaining independence, building resilience, taking ownership of learning, and preparing for the future.

Across every grade level, Milford’s educators are dedicated to nurturing both deep learning - learning that lasts and transfers to the real world - and strong relationships that provide a foundation for students to thrive.

As we begin this new school year, let us continue to work together to ensure that every student feels inspired, supported, and empowered to design their own story. We are excited to work together in partnership with you.

Parent Involvement
We greatly value the partnership between our schools and parents. Your involvement in school and district events, parent forums, and student activities strengthens our sense of community and supports the success of both our students and staff. We encourage you to visit our schools, connect with parent organizations such as our active PTOs, attend open houses and parent-teacher conferences, and explore volunteer opportunities.

Communication
Effective communication between home and school is crucial for a successful school year. Our Schools and District website, calendars, announcements, and social media pages (accessed at the top of the District website) are regularly updated to keep you informed about important dates, events, and news. We encourage you to contact us with any questions, concerns, or ideas you’d like to share.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Each year, the Federal Government allocates GRANTS to our schools based on the School District’s count for Free and Reduced Lunch.  We are asking families to click on the link and complete the F&R Lunch Form HERE.  Even if you do not think you qualify, it is important that you complete the form, as doing so helps our District receive funds that are vital to running programs and providing services for our students.  If you prefer a hard copy of the form, please contact your child’s school.  Thank you for your participation.

Student Enrollment Information
As soon as possible, please complete your child’s Back-to-School student information form. This information is crucial to ensure our schools have the most up to date emergency contact and medical information, as well as parent approvals and permissions.

Personal Communication Devices
To provide every student with a focused and productive learning environment, the Milford School Board has approved Policy JICJ in accordance with the new state law RSA 189:1-a-V.

Starting Wednesday, August 27, all personal communication devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must remain off and stored in backpacks or lockers throughout the school day, from the first bell until dismissal. This includes lunch, passing times, and recess.  We ask for your support in helping students understand and follow the policy so that classrooms remain safe, focused, and distraction-free.

School Facilities and Safety Related Summer Projects
Deferred maintenance is becoming a thing of the past in the Milford School District. The Milford School Board and the Budget Advisory Committee have prioritized ongoing maintenance and improvements to ensure our facilities remain safe and supportive of student learning.

This summer’s projects included paving, asbestos removal and new floor tile installation, roof and HVAC unit replacement at Milford High School, new doors and skylight replacement in the cafeteria at Milford Middle School, and window replacement, along with asphalt repairs, at the elementary schools. Thanks to these efforts and more, our schools look clean, updated, and ready to welcome students for the new school year. Some photos can be found HERE.

In addition, new district-wide phone systems and security card access systems have been installed in all buildings to enhance communication and safety.

In closing, thank you for trusting the Milford School District with the honor of educating your child(ren). We’re excited to watch each student grow, learn, and succeed in the months ahead.

Sincerely,
Christi Michaud

Dear Milford Families,

To provide every student with a focused and productive learning environment, the Milford School Board has approved Policy JICJ in accordance with the new state law RSA 189:1-a-V.

Starting Wednesday, August 27, all personal communication devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must remain off and stored in backpacks or lockers throughout the school day, from the first bell until dismissal. This includes lunch, passing times, and recess.

The full policy is attached for your review, and each school’s handbook will include procedures for its implementation.

We sincerely thank the more than 300 parents, students, teachers, and community members who shared feedback through our survey. Your input was invaluable in shaping this policy.

We ask for your support in helping students understand and follow this policy so that classrooms remain safe, focused, and distraction-free. Thank you for partnering with us in supporting every student’s success.

Sincerely,
Christi Michaud
