Hope (Weimont) Dodd   Evelyn M. Blanchard
Class of 1961     Class of 1942
Hope Weimont Dodd, of Milford, NH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the age of 77 with family by her side. Born on August 3rd 1943 in Teaneck, NJ as the oldest of seven children to Norma (Tillison) Weimont and Arne Weimont. Hope lived her life fiercely independent with strength and surrounded by love. A beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Hope is survived by her daughter Marlo (Dodd) Simmons and her husband, Brett, of Hartland, VT, her son Mark Dodd of Milford, NH, her grandson Mitchell Simmons of Watertown, MA and her granddaughter Delaney Simmons of Hartland, VT. She is also survived by her sisters Holly Cassidy, Heather Ciardelli, Hildy Johnson and Heidi Crowell and her brother Bob Weimont.  Hope graduated from Milford High School in 1961 where she was a majorette in the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corp and was awarded the coveted title of 'Queen' of the Snow Ball while also being a member of the Court one year. Across time her education transformed to understanding whatever interests her children and grandchildren had. Always one to speak her mind, usually done through verbal jabs and endearing piercing glances, Hope rarely met her match until she met her 'handsome grandson' whom she doted on and was a great source of pride and joy for her. Her granddaughter, Delaney, inherited her love of dancing and kept Hope on her toes with her spirited personality. (Milford,NH - 03.20.2021)

Evelyn M. Blanchard, age 96, was a lifetime resident of Milford, NH who died on March 4, 2021 at The Hunt Community, in Nashua, NH. Born on March 19, 1924, she was the daughter of Carroll H. Blanchard, Sr. and Alice L. (O'Brien) Blanchard. Evelyn grew up in Milford, NH. She graduated in 1942 from Milford High School (Elm Street). She was an excellent student who got selected to attend the first Girl's State of NH held at the University of NH in Durham, one of only fifty NH high school girls. Knowing she wanted a career in business, she studied bookkeeping, shorthand and typing. Her skills opened up opportunities for practical work at the school and local businesses. After high school, World War II was on and Evelyn accepted the position of Chief Clerk of Selective Service Board No. 12 (draft board), located in the Milford Town Hall, where she supervised three, and often five assistant clerks, and presided overboard meetings. Selective Service Board 12 was a large territory, consisting of many towns, and often Evelyn was required to be at the Town Hall office at 5:00 a.m. to sign in 100-200 men, appoint a foreman, and see them off on the bus to Manchester for examination, waiting to sign them back in on their return, or to send them off to Fort Devens, Ayer, MA for induction into the army. She was employed in that position for five years, until the war ended.
She then worked a few years for Public Service Co. of NH before joining The O.K. Tool Company, Inc., and Williams & Hussey Machine Co. She took night courses studying corporate accounting at the former Nashua Business School and was a Notary Public. Evelyn was a regular communicant of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was a life-long choir member and a long time Rosary Altar Society member, holding several offices, President, Secretary, Vice President, and member of the Board of Directors. On April 26, l976, Evelyn became a Professed Secular Franciscan. She participated for a number of years with the non-denominational local bible study group, The Amherst/Milford Bible Study and was a long time member of the Milford Historical Society.  After retirement, Evelyn devoted much time in volunteering work. She was a poet, some of which were published in The Union Leader, The Milford Cabinet, Ideals Magazine, The National Library of Congress Poetry Anthologies, and many others.  (Nashua, NH - 03.04.2021)
