Dear Milford Community,

I hope this note finds all of you safe, healthy, and well as we continue to navigate these incredibly challenging times as a community during this pandemic. We are so grateful that the vaccination process has begun for staff and many members of the community.

We are writing to update you on new Travel and Quarantine guidance that we have received from NH DHHS. Domestic travel within the U.S. outside of New England no longer requires quarantine upon return to NH. It is still recommended that we follow CDC’s travel guidance, including:

  • Wearing a well-fitted face mask while traveling
  • Practicing social distancing
  • Getting tested 3-5 days after travel (with a molecular or PCR-based test), and
  • Limiting public interactions after travel (ex. Families may choose to quarantine).

(Reference HAN #38).

People who travel internationally or on a cruise ship are still required to quarantine upon return to NH, unless diagnosed with Covid-19 in the prior 90 days or fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

We understand that many community members have not traveled or have not seen loved ones for a very long time, and many people will be traveling particularly over the April break. However, we continue to recommend that families and staff only travel for reasons that fall under “Essential.” And although quarantining is no longer required, we are expecting communication in regards to any intended travel to be provided to building principals prior to the trip. Also, we would ask that upon return, you continue to self-monitor and practice safe and healthy guidelines as provided by the CDC and NH DHHS.

NH DHHS has also provided us with new recommendations in regards to close contacts. Moving forward, NH DHHS does not recommend quarantine for students or staff if a COVID-19 exposure occurs in the classroom setting where students and staff are seated and spaced at least 3 feet apart with consistent and correct face mask use.

  • This guidance applies only to controlled and monitored educational classroom settings (including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities) .

  • Gym class, mask breaks, recess, lunchrooms, and buses will still require exclusion if the individual is within 6 feet of a positive case for an accumulative 10 minutes or more.

  • In other settings, NH DHHS will continue to recommend quarantine for persons within 6 feet of someone with COVID-19 for a cumulative time of 10 minutes or longer during the person’s infectious period, regardless of mask use. (Reference HAN #38).

We appreciate your support and adherence to these new recommendations to keep our School and Community safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jessica Huizenga
